Located 16 miles from Boulder, Jamestown is a small quiet mountain town of about 250 people. To get to Jamestown from Boulder you travel up through James Canyon, which on weekends is filled with cyclists riding up to Jamestown for lunch at the cafe. Jamestown is surrounded my national forest, some of which was damaged in a 2003 forest fire. The Roosevelt National Forest prevents the town from growing in size. The elevation is about 7,000 feet. Jamestown was incorporated in 1863. The U.S. Postal Service opened a branch office in 1866.
