Brief history timeline:
1862 Boulder County is formed. Boulder started out as a mining supply center.
1871 Boulder City is incorporated.
1877 The University of Colorado opened it's doors.
1923 Valmont Power Plant was started.
1937 First traffic light.
1951 Denver-Boulder Turnpike opened. Started as a toll road.
1967 Boulder residents started taxing themselves to purchase open space around the city. First city in the nation to do this.
1971 Boulder created a building height restriction of fifty-five foot so everyone could enjoy the mountain views.
1976 Boulder imposed a 2 percent limit on residential growth.
1979 First Bolder Boulder running.
1980 First Boulder Kinetics.
1980 - 1995 Housing prices jumped as the city gained more high-tech jobs and the population grew quickly.
