Boulder Kinetics: Saturday May 5th 2007
Each year to mark the beginning of spring the local radio station KBCO puts on a odd event that attracts a hugh crowd to watch teams race across water and land. The vehicle the teams use to get them across land and water are home made and usually have a fun theme similar to a float you would see in a parade. Some of these vehicles are not well tested and sink quickly at the beginning of the race (funniest part of the race).
What really attracts the crowds besides the race is usually the warm weather, a sandy beach (which is an oddity in Boulder) and the live bands that perform. The event takes much of the day, in the morning you will see a lot of white skin being exposed for the first time of the year and by the end of the day you will see many sun burns.
Since parking is a hassle for this event I recommend running the Kinetics 5k running race before the event starts, that way you get free parking on the other side of the reservoir and you get into the Boulder Kinetics for free (after paying for the race). That also means you have to get up early!
